After a lengthy period of anticipation, Arjun Tendulkar finally made his first appearance for the Mumbai Indians on Sunday, during their clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Despite being acquired by MI in the 2021 auction, Arjun had been unable to secure a spot on the team in either the 2021 or 2022 seasons, making his debut all the more momentous.
This year, Arjun Tendulkar made his debut in the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians in their match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Arjun's father, Sachin Tendulkar, is considered one of the greatest batsmen of all time and is a legend in Indian cricket. In fact, it was the great Sir Donald Bradman who was so excited by Sachin Tendulkar’s style of play that got many Australians to watch him. I mean an endorsement like that is rather special.
The Tendulkars have now become the first father-son duo to play in the IPL, making this debut an extra special occasion.
Arjun received his cap from Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma, marking his entry into the elite tournament. Mumbai Indians, who won the toss, elected to field, and Arjun opened the bowling attack for the team. In his first over, he gave away only five runs, showing his mettle and setting the tone for the game. His performance in the initial overs drew praise from many fans and former players alike.
However, Arjun's spell was cut short after he conceded 17 runs in two overs, and the Mumbai Indians decided to replace him. Though he could not finish his full quota of four overs, it was an impressive debut for the young left-arm seamer, who showed signs of great promise.
Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun's father, played six seasons with Mumbai Indians and is currently the team's mentor. The fact that his son is now playing for the same franchise is undoubtedly a proud moment for the entire Tendulkar family.
For those who follow social media, it's hard not to smile when reading the two-part tweet Sachin posted. For those who don't have Twitter:
"Arjun, today you have taken another important step in your journey as a cricketer. As your father, someone who loves you and is passionate about the game, I know you will continue to give the game the respect it deserves and the game will love you back."
He went on to say:
"You have worked very hard to reach here, and I am sure you will continue to do so. This is the start of a beautiful journey. All the best!"
Arjun Tendulkar made his first-class debut in December 2020, playing for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan. Just like his father, Arjun made an impressive start to his first-class career by scoring a century in his debut game. This achievement further highlighted the young cricketer's potential and has only raised the stakes for him in the coming years.
During the match against Mumbai, Venkatesh Iyer hammered 104 off 51 balls, making him the second batsman to score a century in this year's IPL after Harry Brook. Iyer's knock helped Kolkata Knight Riders post a total of 185-6. This was only the second century scored by a Kolkata batsman in the history of the IPL, with the first being Brendon McCullum's 158 not-out in the first-ever match of the league back in 2008.
Arjun Tendulkar's debut in the IPL marks the beginning of a new chapter in his cricketing career. He might be worth having a punt on-choose a reliable online sports betting site. The young left-arm seamer has already shown great potential in his first few overs and is sure to get better with experience. Sachin Tendulkar's mentorship and guidance will undoubtedly be instrumental in shaping Arjun's career, and it will be exciting to see how he progresses in the coming years.
